We are in partnership with the 5 other clubs in Northern Lincolnshire to provide a steady supply it cuddly Lions to the Disney Ward and Children’s A&E at Scunthorpe hospital. Children who are distressed and need comfort in hospital are given one to keep and take home when they leave hospital. Each club donates two months supply and this is Isle Lion James visiting Disney Ward recently to make our delivery.

Thank you for all those who attended our quiz to raise funds for the Ukraine, we raised £525 which will go directly to our Polish partner club, along with the £1500 we have already donated, also supported by our twin club de Bernisse in the Netherlands who generously donated 1000 Euros. The funds will go directly to buy essential goods & equipment needed by the refugees.
Link to Gallery The Isle Lions had a mobility scooter donated, which was in need of overhauling & refurbishment, this was carried out courtesy of Eden Mobility in Scunthorpe: https://www.eden-mobility.co.uk/ for which the Lions are very grateful. The scooter has been donated to Julie Marshall of Belton, pictured with Lee Jagger, Group Manager for Eden Mobility, left, & David Hollier Welfare officer for the Isle Lions.
Isle Lions were asked if they could help an under 5-year-old refugee from Ukraine who has Cerebral Palsy. Dimitry arrived in Epworth with his mum but without any assistive aids he had back home. Isle of Axholme Lions stepped in to try and help and one of the things available through their neighbouring Lions in North Notts Lions Club was a trike potentially suitable for Dmitry. Having been in storage for some time, the trike needed a bit more than TLC, so Lion David Hollier took it to J’s Cycle Shack in Epworth to see if they could work their magic on the trike. The challenge seemed a little beyond them with some rusted parts but Lion David spoke with Jones Engineering in Westwoodside who brought their skills to bear which allowed Kevin Dawson at J’s Cycle shack to transform the trike into a very usable piece of specialist equipment. Isle of Axholme Lions are most grateful to Kevin and the companies involved for so readily lending a hand to help make a young boy’s life just that little bit better. Pictured is Mark Summers (L) who, with his partner Pam is hosting Dimitry and his mum together with Kevin (centre) and Lion David Hollier. Also pictured is a very happy Dimitry. Project Linus UK is a 100% volunteer non-profit organisation. Their aim is to provide love, a sense of security, warmth and comfort to children from birth to 18 years of age , who are seriously ill, traumatised or otherwise in need through gifts of NEW, HOMEMADE, WASHABLE quilts and blankets, lovingly made by volunteers. It is called a hug that they can keep.
Volunteers are all local to our area and to date have been providing quilts to children in Scunthorpe, Gainsborough and Retford. They rely heavily on the generosity of all the sewers and knitters to provide wool, fabrics and wadding but occasionally also ask for support from organisations to help purchase fabrics to make the quilts which not only take many hours to make but are also quite costly. Since April 2022 we have provided 134 quilts to children across North Lincolnshire alone. The vast majority going to Scunthorpe Hospital Disney Ward and the Women’s Refuge. I would also like to say that anyone who knows of a child who is ill can request a quilt on their behalf.
