Isle Lions member John Smedley presents a cheque for £250 to Project Linus local co-ordinator Helen Nixon
Project Linus UK is a 100% volunteer non-profit organisation. Their aim is to provide love, a sense of security, warmth and comfort to children from birth to 18 years of age , who are seriously ill, traumatised or otherwise in need through gifts of NEW, HOMEMADE, WASHABLE quilts and blankets, lovingly made by volunteers. It is called a hug that they can keep.
Volunteers are all local to our area and to date have been providing quilts to children in Scunthorpe, Gainsborough and Retford. They rely heavily on the generosity of all the sewers and knitters to provide wool, fabrics and wadding but occasionally also ask for support from organisations to help purchase fabrics to make the quilts which not only take many hours to make but are also quite costly.
Since April 2022 we have provided 134 quilts to children across North Lincolnshire alone. The vast majority going to Scunthorpe Hospital Disney Ward and the Women’s Refuge.
I would also like to say that anyone who knows of a child who is ill can request a quilt on their behalf.

J's Cycle Shack Helps Isle of Axholme Lions
Isle Lions were asked if they could help an under 5-year-old refugee from Ukraine who has Cerebral Palsy. Dimitry arrived in Epworth with his mum but without any assistive aids he had back home. Isle of Axholme Lions stepped in to try and help and one of the things available through their neighbouring Lions in North Notts Lions Club was a trike potentially suitable for Dmitry. Having been in storage for some time, the trike needed a bit more than TLC, so Lion David Hollier took it to J’s Cycle Shack in Epworth to see if they could work their magic on the trike.
The challenge seemed a little beyond them with some rusted parts but Lion David spoke with Jones Engineering in Westwoodside who brought their skills to bear which allowed Kevin Dawson at J’s Cycle shack to transform the trike into a very usable piece of specialist equipment. Isle of Axholme Lions are most grateful to Kevin and the companies involved for so readily lending a hand to help make a young boy’s life just that little bit better.
Pictured is Mark Summers (L) who, with his partner Pam is hosting Dimitry and his mum together with Kevin (centre) and Lion David Hollier. Also pictured is a very happy Dimitry.
**Once again a terrific Car Show, many thank to Lions member Terry Condliff & his team for putting on an excellent event. Huge thanks to all the exhibitors & the public for attending.**

Here is a message form our partner club Kalisz in Poland , explaining what some of our contribution, along with our twin club d'Bernisse in Holland, is being used for, along with some pics they sent us.
" I’m sure you’ve seen our relationship on Facebook, but only in the event that we let you and your club know by e-mail about the completion of the tasks made possible by your financial support.
In the first dose, four partners, a little bit of your club, a little bit of the Lions Club De Bernisse from the Netherlands, a little bit of us, the Lions Club Calisia, and a little bit of our specialist healthcare centre proHIGIENA. For a total of two and a half thousand zloty, we bought intravenous cannulas, cannula patches, infusion fluid transfusion apparatus, which are urgently needed in the event of large blood loss, e. g. from gunshot wounds. We also bought haemorrhagic dressings for bleeding wounds and nitrile gloves necessary for microbiological safety, syringes, needles and other medical aids. The transport went to Saporozhye – this is the region where the hardest fighting takes place and where these medical supplies are most needed. There is a volunteer centre that takes care of getting help as close as possible to the front line.
The subsequent transportation of medical supplies was entirely possible thanks to the money donated by your club. We were able to buy 100 tactical stasis. This is a type of equipment that allows an injured soldier to stop bleeding in the event of a gunshot wound, both in the upper and lower extremity. Every soldier should have such a bracelet to help himself in a critical situation. This stasis only saves lives, and it’s said that most fighters die of bleeding.
Thank you for your help and we hope we have fulfilled your expectations."
Best regards
Robert

Isle Lions supporting communities during COVID-19 crisis
Isle of Axholme lions have donated £1,000 from their funds and to support the Food Banks in both Crowle and Epworth at this critical time.Lion President Glyn Snowden said: “This is significant sum of money that we are putting to good use straight away. As soon as we realised the potential problems some of our local residents might be having, in putting food on the table, at the end of March we made emergency payments from our funds, raised in the Isle, to both Food Banks. This Coronavirus pandemic is hurting lots of local people in lots of different ways - just because we are all social distancing doesn’t stop us from caring - we are doing what we can. This cash injection will help us do more in our local community to help those who need it most.
We are delighted to be working with the Baptist Church in Epworth who are the focus of Food Bank assistance in the South of the Isle, and Mayor of Crowle Alan Rayment and Councillor Julie Reid on behalf of the Crowle Town Council Food Bank initiative.”
When a humanitarian crisis strikes, the Lions Clubs Foundation of the British Isles works with and are guided by their own Lions members who are ordinary people actively working at the heart of their communities.
Isle of Axholme Lions Club supports a range of good causes and local projects where you can get involved, please contact us on here on Facebook.

Lions Clubs International is the world's largest service club organization. We have 1.35 million members in more than 45,000 clubs in over 206 countries and geographic areas. Founded in 1917, we are best known for fighting blindness, but we also volunteer for many different kinds of community projects, including caring for the environment, feeding the hungry and aiding seniors and the disabled

The Isle of Axholme Lions Club was formed in 1966 to raise funds for a variety of projects important to local communities and to support Lions' national and international charitable causes. Situated in the Westernmost part of North Lincs, separated from the rest by the River Trent with Doncaster to the West and Scunthorpe to the East, the two main towns are Crowle and Epworth, there are 12 parishes containing 21 settlements, in an area of approx 52,000 acres and a population around 19,000. We are part of Lions Clubs International, British Isles & Ireland, in District 105E covering Derbyshire, Leicestershire, Lincolnshire, Nottinghamshire and Rutland.
We are twinned with the De Bernisse Lions Club in the Netherlands, it is located to the South of Rotterdam, we have a very close relationship with the club, both socially and fund raising, having experienced several exchanges and jointly funded projects together

Our main fund raising is during December (1st - 24th) when we travel all over the Isle of Axholme with Santa's float, this has raised many thousands of pounds a year, over several years.

We also hold a giant Easter egg raffle over the three weeks up to Good Friday. Locating about 35 eggs at various pubs, shops, schools and other premises throughout the Isle.

Our annual golf tournament in June, now in its 22nd year, hosted at the Lincolnshire Golf Club, Hirst Priory, between Belton and Crowle, is another regular fund raiser which has also raised thousands of pounds over the years.
Other fund raising events, past and present, have included numerous quizzes, Burns suppers, sportsman's dinners & entertainment evenings, barbecues, bonfire nights, auctions, carol singing, hog roasts, even clay pigeon shoots and splat the rat!
